Best Practice Network Member Request: Chandon “PET label liner disposal”

Dear Members,

Chandon Australia was established in 1986 in the Yarra Valley. It crafts traditional method sparkling wines which are complex, expressive and reflective of their origins. Chandon is committed to sustainability, with one of the key aspects being waste reduction.

We are reaching out to request assistance in identifying effective solutions for the disposal of PET label liners. For years, Chandon have been committed to finding an eco-friendly alternative to landfill disposal for these materials. As many businesses, regardless of their industry, use labels on products or in B2B transactions, the PET backing (commonly known as ‘label liner’) poses a significant recycling challenge due to its silicone coating, which complicates its compatibility with other plastics in recycling streams.
(Please refer to image examples supplied below)

We would greatly appreciate any guidance or information from the community on:

  • Existing recycling streams or;
  • Innovative practices for managing the disposal of this material

We would greatly appreciate any guidance or information from the Best Practice Network community and are eager to hear about their experiences and any feedback that can be shared.

If you can assist, please contact me via email.

Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation.
