Best Practice Network Member Request: Austal “Best Practice Processes for Material Flow”

Dear Members,

Austal is a multi-national company that designs, builds and sustains ships and ship systems. We have two main operating groups, in AustraliaAsia and USA. The AustraliaAsia operating group has operations in a number of national and international locations with approximately 1,500 staff.

Recently Austal AustraliaAsia updated its ERP system (IFS) and in doing so revised a number of its associated processes. Now that we’ve “gone live” we are looking for support from the Best Practice Network for information on the processes related to material flow.

Specifically, we are looking for:

  • Best Practice information for part naming and part categories;
  • Best Practice application of material planning/logistics for different material types. E.g. consumables using KanBan/MinMax – commodities such as steel plate using batch with Austal storage or leveraging distributor and Long Lead Time order management.

Ideal outcomes will be efficient whole of business processes for materials flow and management that will be input into digital tools; and specific advice on data structures for parts naming and logistics.

Ideally information would come from larger organisations that have manufacturing and construction experience with large companies. They would also have experience with ERP implementation.

If you can assist, please contact via email [email protected]

Thank you in advance.
