Notes from Australia and New Zealand by Bob Hafey

Twenty days away from home. Five cities and five two-day Lean Safety workshops. What fun I had.

This trip provided another opportunity to stay engaged and change the world. Not the whole messy world, just a small part of it – how people think about workplace safety and lean leadership.

By sharing my stories of continuous improvement safety, respectful employee engagement, coaching and people-centric leadership, I prepared the attendees to see both Safety and Lean leadership differently.

During each workshop I met and interacted with wonderful inquisitive people. At the end of each workshop I shook the hand of every attendees and sincerely thanked them for attending. As I did, I looked into their eyes and observed the sparkle that told me they were switched on by the concepts of Lean Safety. Some of their eyes sparkled like distant stars while others were ablaze with the joy of new knowledge and a passion for change. As we said our goodbyes I was certain they would help me attain my goal of changing the world.

Many thanks to the Best Practice Network and their team of skilled and passionate facilitators and support staff. They worked with the host sites to plan and coordinate the events, plan my travel and look after me during my visit. I count them all as friends.
