Welcome to our Newest Members
Dulux Group – Operations Feedback Systems – VIC 16/9/16

“The visit offered an excellent end-to-end view of a modern Operations Feedback System, implemented using latest technologies. From round-the-table introductions, conversations and questions put forward, it became clear that despite representing disparate industries, all of those attending face very similar issues and have much in common when it comes to both the objectives and difficulties associated with implementing responsive production based OFS and OEE systems.”

Greg Shearer, Senior Systems Engineer, OneSteel Wire

Branach – Senior Leaders Breakfast Innovation & Growth – VIC 9/9/16

“Members of Best Practice Network were able to hear and see about Mike Walsh’s innovation and growth from ladders to working at height systems at Branach. I was particularly impressed with the very thoughtful integrated work put into Branach branding and marketing all in safety yellow. Mike provided his experience on the importance and methods of innovation, difficulties and a good group discussion. Again I was impressed with Mike’s level of deep thinking and study into how to have a good innovation process.

Mark James, Divisional Manager, Denso

Visy – The Visual Factory, Data Into Action – QLD 8/9/16

“This being my first exposure to the Best Practice Network sessions I had high hopes on how it would go and how much information / knowledge I would gain. I was not disappointed. I really enjoyed the informal way that day was run and the fact that all involved were very open and honest with information.I made some good contacts and like the ability to share ideas with other people and companies that are on a similar journey to ourselves.”

Re-thinking HR for Your Operational Excellence & Culture Change Workshops in QLD, NSW & VIC with Cheryl Jekiel – 22- 26 August 2016

“Cheryl Jekiel has a wealth of experience and excels in stimulating the discussion around this often neglected element of talent management. The session offered real world examples and an opportunity for in depth examination of the current process and policies in use in business, and how these impact the long term success of Continuous Improvement Initiatives.

Rohan Tink, Continuous Improvement Manager – Dulux (QLD)

“Cheryl’s vast experience and passion for the subject was clearly evident and I believe a lot of interest was shown for her approach to providing ROI information for those that need numbers to be convinced of the benefits. It challenged the group to think differently about the role that HR can and should play in developing and maintaining an improvement culture.”

Brandon Buhler (NSW)

Kenworth – Quality Systems – VIC 17/08/16

“As a Quality Manager, it was a great opportunity to visit another plant in a related industry, and observe the similarities, differences and potential opportunities for my own organization. Of particular interest was the Kenworth “Electronic Work Instructions” (EWI) System which captures real-time recording and management of QA inspection results, component supply status etc and may be used for performance trending over time. Thanks to the Kenworth Team for sharing their tremendous passion/ enthusiasm for their work, and candid responses/ feedback”.

Leonie Duane, Quality Manager, Refuel International

Wrigley – How to Achieve Sustainable Cultural Change – NSW 11/8/16

“A good focus on behaviour and what it is that underpins culture. Kotter model was excellent. The Wrigley Case Study and Fernando were excellent, and I loved the “burning platform / burning ambition” video. Ron Spiteri was a great presenter with excellent materials.”

Brad Booth, Head of Strategy Implementation Governance, GrainCorp

Nufarm – OHS Moot Court – VIC 28/7/16
“The Moot Court session conducted by HR Legal was a very interactive and thought provoking exercise which I highly recommend for all front line Leaders & Managers. The exposure of participants being cross examined by prosecution and defence lawyers regarding their actions which led to a serious safety incident highlighted some key obligations under the OH&S Act for employees, supervisors & managers.”

Burra Foods – Value Stream Mapping – VIC 25 & 26/7/2016

“We really appreciated the opportunity to have external people come and explore business opportunities for Burra Foods using the VSM process. Anthony Clyne did a great job with the facilitation. He really maintained momentum and we have got some positive outcomes to go froward with. Thank you for your support and to the rest of the Best Practice Network participants.”

Stewart Carson, GM Supply Chain Burra Foods

mps – Customer Value Through People and Automation – QLD 21/7/16
“The recent site visit to mps showcased challenges as well as successes which resonate in many businesses and new ideas were gained which I can use and share. Specifically challenges of site layout, increasing volume, allocation of time and resources to training/ meetings relates to my business and in mps this has not prevented the business focussing on the customer, quality  or endeavouring to implement lean processes.”

Mark Franke, Regional CI Manager – Queensland, Goodman Fielder

BlueScope – Implementing Lean in a Brown Field Site  – VIC 21/7/16

“I really enjoyed my first Best Practice Network visit at the Bluescope plant in Western Port. The event showcased a number of systems and tools that had been rolled out across the plant. Key takeaways for me were the linkage of the site business strategy through to each operating area and the engagement and enthusiasm of the staff that we met in implementing solutions to deliver on that strategy.”

Robert Leadbetter, CI Manager Warrnambool Cheese and Butter

Telwater Boats – Manufacturing Excellence in Marine – QLD 12/07/16

“It was great to be included in the Telwater site visit, I came away with some great ideas from the floor tour, but especially from the round table discussion afterwards.  One being, improving and creating more production staff participation in our Rolled Throughput Yield Metric reporting, by giving them a better understanding of what it is, why we do it, and how it positively effects the business.”

Melissa Kyte, Production Scheduler/Expeditor Micreo

Addiction to the Status Quo – Motivational Interviewing
Every change journey includes dealing with managers and employees who just don’t get it, or are not on board. Some North American lean leaders are now successfully adapting clinical methods –motivational Interviewing – to help leaders and their employees overcome their addiction to the status quo. FORM2000 Sees the Value in Best Practice Network
“ A key benefit of being part of the Best Practice Networkis the opportunity to visit member sites and see how people are dealing with similar issues to us on the ground. We’ve been pleased with how open and collaborative these forums have been as everyone genuinely seeks to learn from, and help others.

“We’ve taken ideas directly from examples and case studies of other members, which have ultimately benefited our own sheet metal manufacturing operation – seeking essentially to continually improve our own operation and adopt what is ‘best practice’.”

Simon Mollison, GM, FORM2000
