AME INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE USA

AME Cincinnati USA

AME Cincinnati USA

I have just recently returned from the International AME CONFERENCE in Cincinnati that was attended by 2000 industry people. I had the pleasure of co facilitating a workshop with my TXM colleagues on Sustaining Cultural  Change  with participants from around the globe. We all have the same challenges!

The major themes coming out of this conference  – the American manufacturing sector is under the pump like ours, employee engagement and leadership is pivotal , innovation is essential and that massive change thru technology and digital disruption is underway. (For example Aus Post are now considering parcel delivery by drones!)It was stated that about 70% of the North American workforce is either passively or actively disengaged. Therefore the role of leadership at all levels within organisation is critical to engage, motivate employees and support continuous improvement. One of the keynote speakers indicated that his top lean measure was the amount of time that his leaders spent in the gemba.

The keynote speaker from Google talked about their 70/20/10  rule for innovation. Employees do their normal job /role for 70% of their time, 20% in teams on CI projects and 10% on way out ideas. We are certainly not all like Google with their huge drive on innovation but we must work on developing a culture of gaining our employees’ ideas and input and commitment. In fact there was a recent news report outlining  how BHP has made substantial cost savings and performance improvement thru a new structured employee engagement program. This approach is not new thing but companies are realizing there is enormous upside if done well.

ONTEX Site Visit 3/10/15

Today was not just a site visit.
